In this Football Manager 2019 Watford team guide, we will explore the club in close detail to provide you with information to help you at the start your FM19 Watford save.
Watford are in their fourth season in the top flight, following mid-table finishes in the last few seasons.
They have been building their team stronger each season and are one of the teams looking to potentially break into the top six of the Premier League.
Managing Watford is a good challenge, the team is easily good enough for their expectations but is also ready to start pushing for a push for Europe.
The Watford board are expecting you to achieve a mid-table finish this season, which is similar to their final position last season.
Like with most Premier League teams, the cup competitions are not as important and although a cup run would be a nice achievement, under-achieving in these competitions won’t get you fired.
TRANSFER & WAGE BUDGET
Transfer Budget: £34.1M
Wage Budget: £1.25M (£100K remaining)
Watford has already spent £22M on transfers this season with the signings of a few different players, Gerard Deulofeu (£11.75M) and Adam Masina (£4.5M) being the most expensive.
Despite their £22M outlay so far, they still have a budget of £34.1M to spend on new signings, which a good amount of a club in their position.
Gerard Deulofeu – (CA 148 – PA 161)
Gerard Deulofeu is a new transfer this season, having signed from Barcelona for £11.75M
He is an Attacking midfielder who can play on either side, he is great at Dribbling and with excellent Acceleration, Pace and Flair, Deulofeu is a very good player on the ball who can make things happen in the final third.
Deulofeu is the most talented player in your team and should be able to chip in with a few goals and assists which will help you achieve your targets.
Best Attributes – Dribbling (18), Flair (18), Acceleration (17), Technique (17), First Touch (17).
Abdoulaye Doucouré – (CA 147 – PA 160)
Abdoulaye Doucouré is a Box to Box Midfielder who has been at Watford following his £5M transfer from Rennes.
although he joined in 2015/16, he didn’t become a first-team regular until last season, when he played in 37 league matches scoring 7 goals.
Doucouré he became a vital part of the Watford team, with his all-around attributes which makes him perfect for a box to box midfielder.
You can expect Doucouré to be excellent in the defensive phase, but also good at getting forward to create chances and scoring goals.
Best Attributes – Work Rate (17), Stamina (17), Teamwork (16), Natural Fitness (16), Passing (15).
Roberto Pereyra – (CA 147 – PA 156)
Roberto Pereyra is a well-rounded versatile player with good offensive and defensive attributes.
Pereyra is able to play on either side of the wing, as a central midfielder or a central attacking midfielder.
Pereyra will be a player which is able to control the game for Watford, making runs with the ball often and one-two passes.
At 27 years old, Pereyra is still able to improve and reach his potential ability of 156, however, he is getting close to his prime years.
Best Attributes – Technique (16), Off The Ball (16), Dribbling (15), First Touch (15), Agility (15).
Watford has quite a lot of young players which are coming through into the first team, so their future is looking very bright.
here are some of the most likely young players to make a breakthrough into the senior squad.
João Pedro – (CA 90 – PA 160)
João Pedro is not currently at Watford as he has a £3M future transfer arranged for 01/01/2020.
João is only 16 years old and with a current ability of 90, he is not likely to make the first-team for a couple of seasons.
however, with a potential ability of 160, João could become a future star in the Watford team.
You will want to keep him in the Under 18s team for the first season he is at the club, then potentially loan him to out to a club who are willing to play him regularly.

PLAYERS TO CONSIDER SELLING
Adrian Mariappa – (CA 128 – PA 135)
Adrian Mariappa is now 31 years old and although he could still play a role in the team on a rotational basis, he’s no longer good enough for a premier league team with the ambitions of Watford.
Mariappa is still valued at £8.75M so you could hopefully receive a good transfer fee for him.
Wage: £15K p/w
Expected transfer value: £14M
Sebastian Prödl – (CA 128 – PA 138)
Sebastian Prödl is the exact same situation as Mariappa in that he is 31 years old and no longer good enough to be an effective central defender for a team with the ambitions of Watford.
Prödl is still a fairly desirable player for other teams so were able to get a nice £12M transfer fee for selling him.
Wage: £45K p/w
Expected transfer value: £12M
Miguel Britos – (CA 126 – PA 140)
Miguel Britos is the third player we recommend selling and is also the third central defender.
He had been demoted to the Under-23s team as he isn’t as good at the other central defenders in the first-team.
Britos is still worth £2.5M and we were able to sell him for £2.6M with no additional clauses.
Wage: £25K p/w
Expected transfer value: £2.4M
PLAYERS TO CONSIDER SIGNING
If you followed our advice and have transfer listed or sold the players we suggested, then your defender options will be looking a little thin.
Therefore we suggest you look to sign in one or two new central defenders to compete with Christian Kabasele and Craig Cathcart in the first-team.
Here are some players who would be good signings for Watford;
Cristian Romero – (CA 130 – PA 130/160)
Cristian Romero is an Argentinian Central Defender who currently plays for Genoa, he’s a good height for a defender at 6’1″ and has good defensive attributes.
Romero would be good enough to be a regular for the first-team upon being signed and with a potential ability of up to 160, he has to potential to be a key player in the Watford team.
Cristian Romero has only recently joined Genoa so won’t be available for transfer in the first season.

Mattia Caldara is an Italian Central Defender who plays for Milan, He is the more complete defender of the players on our list and has a higher potential ability, which also makes him the most expensive.
