Manchester United are overdue a serious title challenge as they have not been champions of the English Premier League since the 2012/13 season.
On paper the Man United squad should be good enough to challenge for the title, however, different reasons have caused them to fall short each season.
For the amount of money Manchester United are paying in wages, the squad is vastly underperforming and potentially requires an entire rebuild.
Manchester United have a Premier League expectation of qualifying for the Champions cup, This should be an achievable expectation, based on the quality within the squad.
Although don’t expect it to be an easy task as the other top teams will all be desperate to get into the top 4 too.
As well as their Premier League Expectations, the board will also require you to reach the quarter-final of the European Champions Cup, which is another expectation which you should be able to achieve.
TRANSFER & WAGE BUDGET
Transfer Budget: £62.8M
Wage Budget: £4.0M (£448K remaining)
Manchester United have already spent £60M on players so far, with the signing of Diogo Dalot (£19.75M) and Fred (40M).
They do however still have over £60M left to spend on transfers which a good amount compared to the other big clubs who have already spent their budget.
Paul Pogba – (CA 174 – PA 185)
Paul Pogba is in his third season back at Manchester United following an £86M transfer from Juventus in 2016/17.
Pogba is a world-class midfielder with an excellent range of attributes, however, he’s not specialized in one particular role and therefore the jury is still out on what his best position role is.
Pogba is a physically strong and fast player who is very difficult to tackle, He’s also got a great first touch and passing.
Best Attributes – Technique (19), Flair (19), First Touch (18), Passing (18), Balance (18).
David De Gea – (CA 179 – PA 183)
The Manchester United shot-stopper David De Gea has been the outstanding performer in a United team which have fallen well below standards in recent seasons.
This has been highlighted by the fact he has won the Manchester United player of the year on four occasions between 2013/14 and 2017/18.
With world-class reflexes and agility, in particular, De Gea is one of the worlds best goalkeepers.
However, with his contract expiring in 2020, contract renewals should be a top priority to keep him at the club for years to come.
Best Attributes – Reflexes (20), Agility (18), Handling (18), Determination (17), Anticipation (17).
Romelu Lukaku – (CA 155 – PA 168)
Romelu Lukaku is in his second season at Manchester United following an £85M transfer from Everton in 2017/18.
His first season was fairly average, scoring 16 league goals from 34 league appearances.
Lukaku will be expecting a better season this year and should be getting 25/30 league goals per season.
Lukaku is a powerful forward with tremendous Strength and other physical attributes, coupled with excellent pace for a player his size, makes him a very effective Striker.
Best Attributes – Strength (19), Balance (18), Heading (17), Jumping reach (17), Pace (17).
Tahith Chong – (CA 116 – PA 150/180)
Tahith Chong is an exciting young player who has been developing in the Manchester United youth system, He’s now edging closer to the Manchester United First Team.
Chong is a Natural Attacking midfielder, who is capable of playing either side or through the middle.
The 18-year-old midfielder already has some nice attributes for an attacking player and with a Potential of 150-180, he is sure to improve a lot in the coming seasons.
We would suggest keeping Chong at the club and allowing him first-team football whenever possible to increase his growth.

Diogo Dalot – (CA 130 – PA 150/180)

With a potential of 140-170, he’s a really exciting talent who has the potential to go all the way.
Best Attributes – Flair (20), Acceleration (16), Determination (15), Dribbling (14), Pace (14).
PLAYERS TO CONSIDER SELLING
Alexis Sánchez – (CA 157 – PA 182)
Alexis Sanchez signed from Arsenal last season (2017/18) in a deal which saw Henrikh Mkhitaryan going the other way and is still to show his best form for the Red Devils.
In real life Sanchez has been a flop for United, however, on FM19 Sanchez has all the attributes required to be a very successful player and could most likely be an important player if you choose to keep him.
We would recommend selling Sanchez as the 29-year-old is no longer at his peak and will most likely start to decline from next season, he’s also currently valued at £42.5M and with a massive wage of £400,000 p/w, selling Sanchez would provide you with a lot more money to be creative with.
Wage: £400K p/w
Expected transfer value: £20M+
Juan Mata – (CA 152 – PA 174)
Juan Mata is in his sixth season at Manchester United following his £37M transfer from Chelsea in 2013/14.
Mata is still a useful player and could still provide good performances in the Man United shirt, however, He’s now 30-years-old and his attributes will slowly start to decline over the following seasons, so now might be the best time to sell.
He’s also still valued at around £33M and earning £160,000 p/w, so if you’re able to sell for anywhere near his valuation, it would provide a good amount of money to reinvest.

Expected transfer value: £20M+
Antonio Valencia – (CA 140 – PA 158)
Antonio Valencia has been a great servant for Manchester United since his £16.75M transfer from Wigan in 2009.
Valencia is still a quality player and may be useful through the course of the season, however, he is now 32-years-old and with the new signing of Dalot taking his first-team place and with Darmian in the squad to cover, Valencia won’t be getting much game time.
Wage: £150K p/w
Expected transfer value: £30M+

His Current ability of 135 means he is a slight downgrade to the current Manchester United defenders, however, having a potential of 172 at 19-years-old means he will improve quickly and will be the best defender in the team within a season or two.

Best Attributes – Jumping Reach (17), Bravery (16), Marking (15), Tackling (15), Strength (15).
Wage: £19.25K p/w

Wage: £4.3K p/w
Expected transfer cost: £41M
Expected wage: £40K p/w
Isco (CA 169 – PA 180)
Isco is another option for an attacking midfielder, he currently plays for Real Madrid and would be a signing which would make a quicker impact.
With a current ability of 169, Isco would slot straight into the Manchester United first-team and would more than likely be the star of the team.
Isco is still only 26-years-old and could improve to a potential ability of 180.
However, his higher current ability means he would also cost more money, with Real Madrid demanding around £66M to sign him, although that is still fairly cheap compared to other players similar to his ability.
Wage: £220K p/w
Expected transfer cost: £66M
Expected Wage: £300K p/w
