FM19 Liverpool Team Guide

Football Manager 2019 Team Guide: Liverpool

Being the European Champions Cup Runner-up in 2017/18, Liverpool have well and truly shown they are on their way towards being one of the Elites.

They are one of the medias favourites to win the Premier League and even Champions Cup.

Liverpool also only have an average age of 26-years-old and therefore have a team which is still capable of improving.

FM19 Liverpool Expectations

Liverpool has modest league expectations of Champions Cup qualification, Which should be very achievable, although they will have competition from the other big six Premier League teams.

The Board also expect Liverpool to go on good cup run in both the FA Cup and Champions Cup.

Ultimately the board will be looking for Liverpool to win the league within the next couple of seasons, so this should be your main goal from season one.

Transfer budget: £30.8M
Wage Budget: £1.991K p/w (£251K p/w remaining)

Liverpool have already invested heavily this season with £164M being spent on; Alisson Becker (£56M), Xherdan Shaqiri (£13.5M), Naby Keita (£54M) and Fabinho (£40M).

They do still have around £30M left in the transfer budget, so could potentially sign another player or two, although any big transfer deals will have to wait until next season.

Liverpool have a excellent group of players, most of which would be able to get into any other Premier League team.

They do however have some players in the team which are world-class and can be considered some of the best players in the world.

If you can utilize these players, you’ll be much more likely to be successful.

Salah is considered one of the best players in the world, he’s known in particular for his finishing, dribbling and speed.

being only 26-years-old, Salah still has time before he reaches his prime years and could still improve to a whopping 188 potential ability.

Sadio Mane – (CA 172 – PA 175)

Sadio Mane FM19

Since joining Liverpool, Mane has been a key player and has developed into one of the worlds best wide players.

under Jürgen Klopp, Mane is used as an inside forward, which allows him to get in front of goal and score more often, this role suits Mane extremely well.

Best Attributes – Acceleration (18), Pace (18), Dribbling (16), First Touch (16), Technique (15).

Liverpool has a group of promising young players in their youth setup which in time could be good enough to feature in the first team.

With Excellent youth facilities, you can expect a good stream of young talent coming through their youth system.

However, these are the current stand-out young players at Liverpool;

Trent Alexander-Arnold – (CA 149 – PA 170)

Trent Alexander-Arnold

Trent Alexander-Arnold has come through the Liverpool youth system and is a player who has already established himself in the starting line-up.

being only 19-years-old, he’s a player who can be in the first team for the next 10 years and with a potential ability of 170, he’ll be one of the best Wing-Backs in the world.

Alexander-Arnold likes to get forward whenever possible and has the perfect mixture of defence and attack attributes for a Wing-Back.

Best Attributes – Determination (16), Crossing (15), Teamwork (15), Acceleration (15), Pace (15).

Joe Gomez – (CA 149 – PA 175)

Joe Gomez FM19

Joe Gomez signed for Liverpool in 2015/16 from Charlton for £3.8M and didn’t make many appearances in his first two seasons.

That changed in 2017/18 when Gomez started being used as a central-defender instead of a Right-Back where he had previously played and as a result, started getting more game time.

Gomez was able to strike up a partnership with new arrival Virgil Van Dijk and has made the centre defence position his own.

With a potential ability of 175, he has the potential to be a better defender than Van Dijk, so is definitely a player worth developing.

Best Attributes – Determination (18), Heading (15), Tackling (15), Pace (15), Strength (15).

Harry Wilson – (CA 134 – PA 152)

Harry Wilson FM19

Harry Wilson is currently on loan to Championship team Derby County, so wouldn’t be available for selection for at least next season.

Wilson is an exciting young prospect who isn’t far away from first-team football, although it might be another season before he’s able to make a big enough impact.

Wilson is 21-years-old and with a potential ability of 152, he could be a very useful player in the future, however, won’t reach the level of current first-team players in his position.

Best Attributes – Free Kick Taking (16), Acceleration (15), Dribbling (15), Technique (15), Composure (15).

Like most teams, Liverpool has some players which don’t feature in the first team and would be better to sell in order to make more space for younger players.

Simon Mignolet – (CA 146 – PA 152)

Simon Mignolet FM19

Simon Mignolet was fighting for selection with Karius last season and was able to play a fair amount of games for the first team.

However, with the arrival of Alisson, Mignolet now is well and truly the backup goalkeeper.

There is an argument for keeping Mignolet as the backup goalkeeper, however, selling him would allow you to sign a young replacement who can learn under Alisson.

Value: £21M
Wage: £75K p/w
Expected transfer value: £10M+

Daniel Sturridge – (CA 147 – PA 168)

Daniel Sturridge FM19

Daniel Sturridge has been hampered by injury for the majority of his career and has only played an average 16 games per season since his arrival from Chelsea in 2012/13.

If Sturridge was able to stay fit he would be an excellent backup player with the capability of playing in different positions.

However, Sturridge is valued at £31.5M and if you could get a transfer offer of around that, it would be a great way to open the door for a younger more reliable replacement.

Value: £31.5M
Wage: £130K p/w
Expected transfer value: £20M+

Nathaniel Clyne – (CA 148 – PA 152)

Nathaniel Clyne is currently out on loan to Bournemouth for the season, so won’t be available for selection or to sell until next season.

Clyne was a key member of the Liverpool team for the first two seasons that he was at the club, however, he has fallen down the pecking order due to injuries and the emergence of Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Value: £22.5M
Wage: £75K p/w
Expected transfer value: £15M

A couple of players which would be well worth signing are;

Matthijs De Ligt – (CA 144 – PA 186)

FM19 Matthijs De Ligt

The Dutch wonderkid who currently plays for Ajax would be an excellent signing for Liverpool.

Being paired up with fellow Dutch defender Virgil Van Dijk would give Liverpool the best central-defensive pairing in the Premier League.

De Ligt would be available for around £30M which would be a transfer that Liverpool could make this season.

Best Attributes – Tackling (16), Determination (16), Heading (15), Passing (15), Jumping Reach (14).

Value: £15M
Wage: £13.25K p/w
Expected Transfer fee: £30M plus additional clauses.
Expected Wage: £90K p/w plus bonuses and clauses.

Dayot Upamecano – (CA 135 – PA 172)

Dayot Upamecano FM19

Dayot Upamecano is another centre-back which would be a great signing for Liverpool and would go straight into the starting line-up.

Upamecano is only 19-years-old and has the potential to be one of the worlds best defenders with a potential ability of 172.

He is more expensive with a transfer cost of around £90M required to sign him, however, would demand slightly lower wages.

Best Attributes – Pace (18), Balance (17), Strength (16), Natural Fitness (16), Bravery (16).

Value: £6.75M
Wage: £41.5K p/w
Expected Transfer fee: £90M

Paulo Dybala FM19

Paulo Dybala has been a key player for Juventus since he signed for them in 2014/15, scoring 52 goals in 98 league appearances.

Dybala can naturally play as an Attacking-Midfielder or Striker, so would be a nice versatile player to have your disposal.

he is an excellent player with the ball at his feet, with world-class technique and dribbling ability which allows him to create chances out of nothing.

Dybala would cost around £90M to sign and would demand around £250K p/w in wages, so is probably out of reach financially in the first season.

Best Attributes – Technique (19), Dribbling (18), First Touch (18), Flair (17), Agility (17).

Value: £67M
Wage: £225K p/w
Expected Transfer Fee: £90M
Expected Wage: £250K p/w

Antoine Griezmann – (CA 179 – PA 182)

Antoine Griezmann has been Atletico Madrid’s since his move in 2014/15 for £24M.

Griezmann is known for his excellent technical ability with world-class finishing and first touch, he can be a real game-changer for any team.
