Huddersfield Town are in their second season in the top flight after finishing 16th in the Premier League last season.
They are a club without a massive budget and require clever recruitment to achieve their goals.
Huddersfield will be looking to consolidate their Premier League status and become a mid-table team over the next few seasons.
The Huddersfield board understand they are in for another difficult season, however, they expect the club to avoid relegation like last season.
It’s going to be a long hard year and Huddersfield will most likely need to fight to the very end to survive, however, looking at the squad they should have enough quality to stay in the league.
Transfer & Wage budget
Transfer budget: £6.45M
Wage Budget: £858K p/w (£41K p/w remaining)
Huddersfield has one of the lowest transfer budgets in the Premier League, so you will need to be clever about who you sign and not throw money around on non-essential signings.
They have already spent around £37M on new players this season, The two signings which stand out are Terence Kongolo for £18M and Adama Diakhaby for £9, who were both signed from AS Monaco.
They have also done well to sign in a couple of younger players with good potential in, Karlan Grant and Juninho Bacuna.
Huddersfield is a team which rely on teamwork rather than individual excellence, so although their best players will have an important role, they won’t be as important as keeping the whole teams’ morale high to continue fighting all season.
Christopher Schindler – (CA 140 – PA 155)
Christopher Schindler has been a mainstay in the Huddersfield defence since he moved to the club in 2016/17.
Schindler is a big 6’2″ centre-back who is especially strong in the air.
He is in his prime years, however, may still be able to improve and reach his 155 Potential Ability.
Best Attributes – Heading (15), Bravery (15), Determination (15), Leadership (15), Jumping Reach (15).
Aaron Mooy (CA 140 – PA 150)
Aaron Mooy has been a key player in the Huddersfield team since joining the team on loan in 2016/17 and then permanently in 2017/18 for £8.5M
Mooy has a range of attributes which make him a very effective central midfielder and is able to dictate the tempo of a match.
At 27-years-old is still should be able to improve and reach his potential ability of 150.
Best Attributes – Passing (16), Composure (16), Teamwork (16), First Touch (15), Technique (15).
Terence Kongolo (CA 136 – PA 145)
Terence Kongolo is the main signing for Huddersfield this season, having spent £18M to bring the left-sided Wing-Back from AS Monaco.
Kongolo is naturally capable of playing Wing-back and Centre-back, so is an important player to have if you get any injuries in those positions.
With a Potential Ability of 145 and being 24-years-old, Kongolo still has time to improve in attributes and being a more complete player.
Best Attributes – Tackling (15), Positioning (15), Heading (14), Aggression (14), Acceleration (14).
Huddersfield doesn’t have many young players in the youth squads which have the potential to become first-team members, so working on increasing their youth recruitment would be very beneficial.
They do however have a few young players in and around the senior team which you should focus on improving.
Juninho Bacuna (CA 117 – PA 130)
Juninho Bacuna is a new signing for Huddersfield having joined from FC Groningen for an undisclosed fee.
He’s an exciting young prospect who isn’t far from first-team football.
Bacuna should be able to play a bit part for the first-team and within a couple of seasons would be good enough to be a regular.
Best Attributes – Off The Ball (15), Work Rate (15), Technique (14), Agility (14), Pace (14).
Ramadan Sobhi (CA 124 – PA 149)
Ramadan Sobhi is currently on loan to Egyptian side Al-Ahly and can’t be recalled so he won’t return until the 2019/20 season.
Sobhi is a young attacking midfielder who has plenty of time to improve and with a potential ability of 149, he could be one of the best players in the team.
Best Attributes – Determination (19), Flair (17), Bravery (15), Off The Ball (15), Teamwork (15).
Karlan Grant (CA 121 – PA 145)
Karlan Grant is another new signing at Huddersfield this season, having joined from Charlton for £2M.
Grant is a young 20-year-old Striker who is already close to the level of the other Huddersfield strikers.
however, with a 145 potential ability, he’s likely to improve to a higher level than the current strikers within a season.
Best Attributes – Acceleration (17), Pace (16), Agility (15), Dribbling (14), Finishing (13).
Players to consider selling
Huddersfield don’t have the largest squad available to them, so when selling players you need to be careful not to leave yourself short,
however, with such a low transfer budget you may need to sell players in order to finance any new signings you would like to make.
Some players which you may consider selling are;
Danny Williams (CA 131 – PA 135)
One position Huddersfield do have plenty of cover for is in central midfield, so although Danny Williams is a good player who could still do a decent job, it would be unlikely you will call upon him very often.
Williams is also 29-years-old, so he is no longer a player who is improving and instead his attributes may start to worsen from next season, therefore, his value is only likely to decrease too.
Wage: £30K p/w
Expected transfer value: £5M+
Laurent Depoitre (CA 124 – PA 128)
Laurent Depoitre only joined Huddersfield in 2017/18 season for £4.4M and had a fairly decent season, however, with Huddersfield signing new strikers in Diakhaby and Grant, Depoitres’ role may be less important.
Depoitre is also worth around £8.5M and you should be able to get at least his valuation in transfer fees, which means you can double Huddersfield’s money with the sale and provide more funds to sign other players.
Wage: £35K p/w
Expected transfer value: £8.25M
Players to consider signing
Huddersfield doesn’t have much money left to spend on signing new players and will find it very difficult to bring in better players than what the squad already has.
Therefore, you will need to be extra smart with the budget you have available and only sign players which are likely to make a good impact.
One position Huddersfield may need to improve is their Goalkeeper options, as it’s currently their weakest position.
Sergio Rico (CA 140 – PA 157)
Sergio Rico is currently on loan to Fulham from Sevilla, however, he would be available to sign this season.
The 6’4″ Spanish Goalkeeper has excellent reflexes and agility, and with a current ability of 140 and a potential ability of 157, he’s a big upgrade to the current Huddersfield ‘Keepers.
Best Attributes – Reflexes (17), Agility (16), Handling (15), One on Ones (15), Composure (15).
Wage: £45K p/w
Expected Transfer fee: £7.5M
Expected Wage: £50K p/w plus bonuses and clauses.
Andre Onana (CA 142 – PA 159)
Andre Onana is a young but experienced goalkeeper who currently plays for Ajax.
He’s been scouted by several of the biggest teams in Europe, however, would be interested in a move to any club in the Premier League.
Onana would be a big improvement on the current Huddersfield goalkeepers and with a potential ability of 159, has the ability to be one of Europes best goalkeepers.
Best Attributes – Determination (17), Natural Fitness (16), Jumping Reach (16), Natural Fitness (16), Aerial Reach (15).
Wage: £17K p/w
Expected Transfer fee: £13M
Expected Wage: £48.5K p/w plus bonuses and clauses.
