Fm19 Tean Guide Burnley

Football Manager 2019 Team Guide: Burnley

Burnley have been a solid mid-table team since their promotion in the 2015/16 season until last season (2017/18) when they finished 7th in the table and qualified for the EURO Cup this season.

Majority of teams struggle in the Premier Division when they first qualify for the EURO Cup and Burnley will find it no different.

Expectations

FM19 Burnley Expectations

The board expectation is to avoid a relegation battle which with the quality of the first team and their previous league finishes should be a very achievable expectation.

The EURO cup expectation could be a little more difficult, especially considering Burnley weren’t able to get past the qualification round in real life and if you are able to reach the fourth round, it’s going to stretch the squad.

Transfer & Wage budget

Transfer budget: £22.5M
Wage Budget: £1.044M p/w (£51K p/w remaining)

Burnley have already spent £29.5M most notably on Ben Gibson for £15M, however, they still have £22.5M in their transfer kitty to spend.

The squad as a whole doesn’t require too many new signings, so spending the entire amount on one player might actually be a good idea, Just make sure it’s the right player.

Key Players

James Tarkowski – (CA 135 – PA 150)

James Tarkowski FM19

James Tarkowski has become a very important player for Burnley since his move from Brentford in 2015/16 for £4M, He’s a Ball Playing Defender with good Passing, Technique and defending attributes.

Tarkowski is still only 25-years-old and has a potential ability of 150, so it’s expected that he’ll only be getting better over the next couple of season.

It’s essential that Tarkowski plays if Burnley is to continue with their strong defensive performances of late.

Best Attributes – Heading (16), Anticipation (16), Teamwork (16), Passing (15), Positioning (15).

Ben Gibson – (CA 131 – PA 153)

Ben Gibson FM19

Ben Gibson is a new player having joined from Middlebrough for £15M this season, he’s another Ball Playing Defender and is likely to be the defensive partner of James Tarkowski.

Gibson not only has strong defensive attributes, but also has decent passing attributes too, so next to Tarkowski, Burnley should have no problem playing the ball out from the back.

With a potential ability of 153 and is only 25-years-old he has the potential to be even better than Tarkowski.

Best Attributes – Tackling (16), Natural Fitness (16), Marking (15), Bravery (15), Determination (15).

Jóhann Berg Guðmundsson – (CA 132 – PA 146)

Johan Berg Gudmundsson FM19

Burnley under Sean Dyche, play with two wide players which get crosses into the box for their two big forwards to get on the end, this tactic wouldn’t work too well if it wasn’t for Gudmundsson, who plays as one of the wide players.

He’s a tireless midfielder who epitomizes everything Sean Dyche wants from his team, with great teamwork, Work Rate and stamina.

Gudmundsson is now 27-years-old so is coming right into the prime of his career and with a potential ability of 146, there is still a little room for him to improve.

Best Attributes – Crossing (15), Teamwork (15), Work Rate (15), Natural Fitness (15), Stamina (15).

Young Players

Burnley already have a good blend young and experienced players in their first team, they don’t have too many young players coming through from the reserves though, so it might be worth looking at improving the youth recruitment at the club to help attract better players.

Burnley have a couple of players which if you spend the time to nurture, should be good enough in the next couple of seasons to make the first team or be good squad players.

Dwight McNeil (CA 115 – PA 133)

Dwight McNeil FM19

Dwight McNeil is an 18-year-old Winger, although good quite good enough yet to be a start, he is already good enough to play a part and should be utilized as a substitute.

If possible it would be good for an already established wide player to mentor McNeil, to help develop him further.

With a potential ability of 133, he could potentially be better than the current Burnley wide players.

Best Attributes – Acceleration (15), Determination (14), Pace (14), Dribbling (13), First Touch (13).

Michael Fowler – (CA 57 – PA 137)

Michael Fowler FM19

Michael Fowler is a 17-year-old forward, who currently plays in the Burnley Under-18s team, he’s a very raw player but as his age would suggest, he has a lot of time to improve and with a potential ability of 137, Fowler has the potential to be a first-team regular.

I would be advised to loan Fowler out for a season or two before checking if his progress has made him good enough to start getting a chance in the first team.

Best Attributes – Aggression (15), Bravery (14), Work Rate (14), Dribbling (13), Agility (13), Acceleration (12).

Players to consider selling

Burnley have six players over the age of 30 and although some of them still have a part to play, others need to move on to allow young promising players a chance to flourish.

These following players are players you should consider getting rid of for the good of the team.

Jonathan Walters – (CA 118 – PA 133)

Jonathan Walters FM19

Jonathan Walters is an experienced player who might still be useful as he can play in a few different positions, he is the third choice at best for all of these positions so would be unlikely to ever make it on to the substitutes bench.

At 34-years-old his best days are behind him and you would be better off giving his space to a younger player, who is likely to improve and potentially break into the first team.

Walters contract expires at the end of the 2018/19 season and he might even decide to retire, so it could be worth attempting to transition him into a coaching role.

Value: £300K
Wage: £30K p/w

Tom Heaton – (CA 135 – PA 151)

Tom Heaton FM19

Due to the quality and form of Nick Pope, Tom Heaton is no longer the Burnley number one, he is however still a very good goalkeeper and has been fantastic for Burnley over the years.

Although Heaton is now 32-years-old, that’s not too old for a goalkeeper and there would likely be a lot of interest from other premier league teams so you should be able to get a good amount of money for Heaton.

Value: £18.75M
Wage: £42K p/w

Matej Vydra – (CA 128 – PA 136)

Vydra is still only 26-years-old and decent player,
unfortunately, he’s probably not good enough for Burnley if your really looking to push on up the premier league.

There should be quite a few teams interested in Vydra, so you shouldn’t find it too difficult to get a good amount for him, Then you would be best served using that money towards younger players with more potential.

Value: £9.75M
Wage: £35K p/w

Players to consider signing

Burnley have a good squad with a lot experience, so there are not any problem areas which need resolving, instead, you should look to bring in younger players, which can be nurtured and over time make their way into the first team, or experienced players who would provide immediate competition to the first team.

Dael Fry (CA 124 – PA 156)

Dael Fry FM19

Dael fry is a player with increasing popularity, he’ll be well known to Championship fans.

The Middlesbrough Centre-back is only 20-years-old, but has had several appearances for Middlesbrough and has done very well, so is definitely ready for the step up.

Fry is 6’4″ and has all the attributes required to be a commanding defender, with good Heading and Jumping Reach attributes, which will make him very difficult to beat in the air.

although it might take him a while to break into the first team on a consistent basis with the current pairing of Tarkowski and Gibson doing so well in recent times.

Fry would be very interested in joining Burnley as Middlesbrough are now in their second season in the Championship and don’t look likely to get promoted this season.

Best Attributes – Jumping Reach (16), Heading (15), Stamina (15), Tackling (14), Work Rate (14).

Value: £3.5M
Wage: £
4.5K p/w
Expected transfer cost: £8M with Additional Clauses
Expected wage cost: £15k p/w with additional bonuses and clauses

Danny Welbeck (CA 142 – PA 160)

FM19 Danny Welbeck

Danny Welbeck has been at Arsenal for a few seasons and hasn’t exactly set the world on fire.

However, his in-game attributes are fairly decent and would offer something different to the current forwards at Burnley.

Welbeck’s contract at Arsenal expires at the end of the 2018/19 season and is very unlikely to be offered a new one, so will be available to sign on a pre-contract agreement in January.

Best Attributes – Acceleration (17), Work Rate (16), Flair (15), Agility (15), Pace (15).

Value: £18.5M
Wage: £125K p/w
Expected transfer cost: Free on a pre-contract agreement
Expected wage cost: £100K p/w with additional bonuses and clauses

Adrien Rabiot (CA 151 – PA 164)

Adrien Rabiot FM19

This is a bit of a wild card suggestion as the 23-year-old midfielder from PSG is probably an unrealistic target.

However as Rabiot is out of contract at the end of the season, he’s available to approach on a pre-contract agreement in January.

so the money saved on the transfer could instead be put towards giving Rabiot a good enough offer to tempt him to sign.

If you’re able to pull it off and get Rabiot to sign, this could be the catalyst which turns Burnley into a real top-6 contender.

Best Attributes – Passing (17), Composure (16), Vision (16), Balance (16), First Touch (15).

Value: £15.75M
Wage: £59K p/w
Expected transfer cost: Free on a pre-contract agreement
Expected wage cost: £100K p/w with additional bonuses and clauses
